About Jan Hurst
Jan Hurst was born in Independence, Missouri during the time of
the early “baby boomers” into an Air Force family. She was encouraged to accept
feminine boundaries of the time to become a wife, mother, teacher, nurse or
secretary. She did marry after a year of community college and had two
daughters, who she was blessed to be able to stay home with until the younger
daughter was in school.
Jan then went to work so she could start back to school one
class at a time. The challenge to work or go to school had hurdles to jump with
the Air Force career of her husband, often moving at inopportune times. She
discovered computers and became a programmer before it was widely accepted to
have women in technology. A thirty year career managing IT teams emerged and
she continued on to get her BA,
followed by an MBA and PhD in business
management. She was the first college graduate for her family. She and her
husband raised their daughters to know no limits and they became a physician
and an attorney.
Jan was married 44 years until her husband was killed in an auto
accident. That catastrophic experience inspired her to write a book, His
Sunrise My Sunset, that has received positive reactions of inspiration
and encouragement. Jan lives in Texas where they retired.
